Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is platelet-rich plasma therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses plasma in your blood that's rich in growth factors, or proteins that facilitate healing naturally. Injecting PRP at the site of pain or an injury accelerates healing and may help you avoid surgery or other invasive procedures. Our providers and their team take a sample of blood from your arm to isolate the PRP prior to treatment.
02

What is PRP used for?

The Integrative Medica team uses PRP to treat the following conditions:

• Arthritis pain and injuries
• Tendon injuries
• Sprains and strains
• Other sports-related injuries
• Inflammation
• Fractures
• Post-surgical repair
• Chronic pain

PRP is also an effective treatment for hair loss, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. It works by regenerating new cell growth.
03

Is PRP therapy right for me?

To find out if PRP is the right treatment for you, our providers and their team review your symptoms and medical history. They complete a physical exam and evaluate the site of pain or injury. Our providers may suggest blood tests, X-rays, MRIs, or other imaging procedures to diagnose your condition.
04

What happens during PRP treatment?

When you arrive at Integrative Medica for PRP therapy, you rest in a relaxing chair. Your provider takes a blood sample from your arm and spins it in a centrifuge to isolate platelet-rich plasma from the rest of your blood.

They numb the treatment area and inject PRP into injured joints or other body tissues. The procedure is virtually painless and fast, without any downtime.

05

What should I expect after PRP therapy?

You can resume a normal daily routine immediately after PRP treatment. However, you may notice temporary redness, irritation, or swelling at the injection site that soon subsides. Apply ice to the area to reduce swelling if you'd like. Our providers may recommend a series of multiple PRP injections and periodic maintenance treatments to optimize your outcome.
